Privacy policy

The short version

Who we are

Brushy Island is made by [Stefan Small] ("we", "us"). If you have any questions about this policy or your family's privacy, email us at stefansmall220789@gmail.com.

Brushy Island is a toothbrushing game for children aged about 4 to 10. A parent or guardian sets it up.

The camera

Brushy Island uses your phone's front camera to see which side of your child's mouth they are brushing, so their buddy can catch food on that side.

The app asks for camera permission once, during setup. You can turn it off at any time in iPhone Settings › Brushy Island.

What is saved on your phone

To make the game work, Brushy Island saves a small amount of information only on your phone, inside the app:

We never see any of this. It stays on your phone until you delete it (see below), except brushing history, which is also deleted automatically once it's 12 months old.

If you back up your iPhone (with iCloud Backup or to a computer), your phone's backup will include this app's information, as it does for other apps. That backup is controlled by you and Apple, not by us.

Reminders

If you switch on a bedtime or morning reminder, Brushy Island asks for permission to show notifications. Reminders are set up on your phone; nothing goes through our servers (we don't have any). Reminders mention your child's buddy, never your child's name.

What is sent to us, or anyone else

Nothing. Brushy Island doesn't connect to the internet to send information. It has no accounts or sign-up, no advertising, no analytics or tracking tools, no crash reporting tools, and no third-party code.

Apple, which runs the App Store, may collect its own information about app downloads, and crash reports if you have chosen to share them with app developers in iPhone Settings. Apple's privacy policy covers this.

If you email us feedback

In the parent area (behind a grown-up question), "Send feedback" opens an email to us in your phone's Mail app. It is only sent if you choose to send it, and you can read and change it first.

The email contains:

It does not include your children's names, profiles, brushing history or anything from the camera.

We only use your email to reply and to improve the app. We keep it only as long as we need to deal with it, and delete it within 12 months. Our email is provided by Google (Gmail). We rely on our legitimate interest in answering your message. We will never add you to a mailing list without asking. [CHECK]

Deleting everything

You're in control. You can:

Because we never receive this information, there is nothing for us to delete on our side. If you have emailed us and would like your email deleted, just ask.

Children's privacy

Brushy Island is designed for children, so we follow the UK's Age Appropriate Design Code (the Children's Code) and UK GDPR:

A parent or guardian should set up the app and decide whether to use it.

Your rights

Under UK data protection law you have rights over your personal information, including to see it, correct it or have it deleted. As we don't receive any information from the app, these rights mainly apply to any email you send us. Contact us at stefansmall220789@gmail.com.

If you're unhappy with how we've handled your information, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO), the UK's data protection regulator: ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint or 0303 123 1113. We'd appreciate the chance to help first, so please get in touch.

Changes to this policy

If we change this policy, we'll update this page and the "Last updated" date at the top. If a change affects what happens to your family's information (for example, if the app ever needed to send anything off your phone), we'll explain it clearly in the app's update notes on the App Store before the change takes effect, and ask for your permission in the app where the law requires it.
